Roundtable meeting on "Prospects and Challenges of Hydropower Education in Nepal" was jointly organized by Asian Institute for Diplomacy and internal affairs (AIDIA) and-Western University (MWU) on 2nd September 2016 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The program was moderated by Mr. Sunil K. C. (CEO of AIDIA) and was chaired by Prof. Dr.Upendra Kumar Koirala (Vice Chancellor of MWU). Mr.MilapDhakal (Co-ordinator of the Department of Engineering at MWU) gave a presentation introducing the Bachelors of Engineering course to the stakeholders sitting at the round table. The Bachelors in Engineering is the first of its kind in Nepal and the introduction of this course could trigger a wave of domestically skilled technicians in the field of hydropower and help Nepal achieve greater development. The presentation brought to light the ongoing problems in Nepal, particularly in the hydropower sector and then briefly outlined the course along with its challenges and future prospects.

 

This program intended to bring stakeholders of hydropower i.e., Hydropower Companies, Investors and Investment Companies in Hydropower, Representatives of Government from Ministry of Energy, Nepal Electricity Authority, Nepal Investment Board, Member of Parliament, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries, representatives of Diplomatic Missions and organizations working in the field of Hydropower and Energy in common forum and convey the information about launched course and also to discuss on its prospects and challenges in context of Nepal.

 

The stakeholders praised the initiative, gave their insightful comments and raised several issues pertaining to the topic of discussion. Their comments and suggestions were highly cherished. The stakeholders also extended their institutional and individual support for the program and its future endeavours. Finally, the concluding remarks were provided by the Vice Chancellor of MWU, Prof. Dr.Upendra Kumar Koirala.
