Dr Christopher Lingle Visiting Faculty Member ,AIDIA on Himalaya Television Nepal May 30,2014

Talking about the open border, issues and consequences between India and Nepal Dr. Lingle who is one of the famous political economist elucidate that the idea of risk and consequences of a open border is always seems to be exaggerated. The thing is the benefits exceed most of the cause. The open border scenario of India and Nepal is not only threats and risk but much more than that. There are fewer risk in having a open border, the problem with security threats is not a problem with open border for example there is not an open border between Kashmir and Pakistan but there lies a security threats. The presence of governments officials who are briefed with the task of keeping border secure, they do it very poorly. Same is the case with states cross border traffic. The primary concern should be opening the border for economic goods and that is the least threatening activity. The problem with cross border trafficking with human beings for illicit activities like prostitution, arms and ammunitions drugs is another question but for the rest of economic development activity borders should be fundamentally open.
