Dr. Sreeradha Datta

Senior Fellow, Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF)

Dr Sreeradha Datta is Senior Fellow, Vivekanda International Foundation, New Delhi. Formerly director, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata, she has also been was a Fellow with Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, New Delhi. Specializing in South Asian and South East Asian studies she has a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Her research focus continues to be on regional organisations, and issues concerning borders, migrations, waters across the South Asian and South East Asian neighborhood. Her publications include six books and monographs, namely, Caretaking Democracy: Political Process in Bangladesh, 2006-08, Bangladesh: A Fragile Democracy, The Northeast Complexities and its Determinants, including co- edited volumes on Changing Security Dynamics in South East Asia, Political Economy of India’s North East Borders and two monographs; The Changing Narrative: India’s Borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar; Drug Menace in South Asia: Pakistan connections. These apart, she has published over 100 articles in journals, edited volumes, newspapers, and academic websites including a recent chapter in Reinvigorating BIMSTEC: An Industry Vision for the next Decade (FICCI).

She continues to serve on the academic boards of several Universities and think tanks and is a regular participant in track 2 dialogues with Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and China. Amongst other distinctions she has been an invitee to the prestigious International Leadership Visitors Program of the US State Department including being a participant in the first academic delegation to be invited to the NATO headquarters. She has also been awarded the Shelton Kodikara Award for South Asian Strategic Studies, Distinguished Indian Scholar Series, University of Taiwan, and Visiting Fellow at Jadavpur University besides other fellowships.
